blade sharpeners

Has anyone tried the rotary blade sharpeners and do they really work?

Many pros and cons. I just buy new blades.

I had/have the ones with the sandpaper. Blades are really quite cheap if you buy a pak of 5 or more.

I have one and I swear it dulled the blade. IMHO, not worth the money. My next strategy when I need new blades is try the ones you can buy by the meg off Ebay. Can't hurt to try. Also Wawak's (no affil) sometimes has great prices on real Olfa blades.

I'm with you on trying to sharpen. Blades have gotten REALLY expensive. I remember when you could get a 10-pack really reasonably, now the 5-packs are outrageous and the 10-packs are non-existent.

there are a number of different brands/types of blade sharpeners- some work ok, some not so good, some are quite dangerous- some less so; any of them will only *provide you* with a little more time on a blade- you may 'sharpen' your blade, cut out one more project & find it dull again- you can keep sharpening- it's a personal choice- I've had 2 different ones (both bought for my by someone else) the first one was (to me) horribly dangerous- I tried it once and decided it was not worth the danger. the 2nd one was a little more 'user friendly' but still the blade was dull again soon- I felt is was worth the $$ to just buy new blades- take advantage of sales, use coupons and stock up when able- my hubby always buys me about 10 new blades for each size cutter I have and puts them in my stocking at Christmas- which is always wonderful! :) you can if you want to of course go ahead & re-sharpen your blade each time it is showing signs of dulling until it is very thin= check out & read about all the different ones- then decide on one to try.

I have the ~TrueSharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener~ It does work! I resharpened a blades about 2 more times, it does not take it to 100% but I would say about 80%. So that gave me the use of one blade three times. :)

I had someone who said he could sharpen my blades but they really didn't work any better. NEVER told him either becuase I didn't want his feelings hurt!! I am always a bit clumsy and hit the corners of my acrylic rulers.

No sharpener will remove nicks or dings!
