PQ1500S Quilting/Sewing Machine?
 

Hi, I'm Kay, I just purchased a pq 1500s machine and was wondering if anyone has one and would share with me how you like it and are satisfied with it. What kind of thread do you use? And if you would have any tips for me about it?

I love mine. I use it primarily for FMQ, but have used the walking foot occasionally. The downside is the walking foot does not have a guide, so I tend not to use it for quilting as I don't like marking the quilts -- much easier to use a guide. Since I tend to piece when watching videos, I use a small machine for that. But I did get a set of piecing feet with guides off E-Bay in 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" widths. Just be sure any feet you buy specifically state they are for the Brother 1500s due to the pin feed.

I use all kinds of thread, and the only time I've had problems is when I used a Walmart branded thread that was at least 20 years old. Most of the time I use Maxilock cone thread and never have had a problem.

I was told to oil the machine every 4th bobbin change, and that is what I've done. It does drink oil and need regular oiling. If it sits for a month without being use, I make sure and oil it and clean out around the bobbin area before using it.

I can't say enough good things about this particular model.

I just bought one too; it arrived yesterday! I was up until 4 AM playing with it and so far, I am loving it. Good info Belfry. I will keep watching this thread for hints and tips as well. Good luck Kl60!

I have had mine since 2002. It is a workhorse. I brush the lint out at each bobbin change and oil it after every third bobbin change. I never take it in for service, and it just keeps going great. It has a beautiful stitch. You won't be disappointed. The needle down and thread cutter make sewing more fun too.

I've had my machine for about a year and I love,love love it. I use it for piecing and quilting. I use Glide and Bottom Line thread and the stitch is beautiful. It does need regular oiling so I oil it about every two weeks.

Which spots need to be oiled that often? Do you remove the bottom of the machine to oil there?

Love this machine! It is a very speedy machine, with 1500 stitches per minute, and so it requires frequent oiling. To oil, remove the bobbin case, and where the the two round metal pieces meet (where they rotate on each other) place a drop of oil. Because of it's high speed, this area requires frequent oiling, my repairman suggested every four bobbins. And, keep the dust out. Enjoy your purchase!

I have had mine for just under 1 year and yet it is a workhorse...sometimes almost gets away from me :). I was glad I read this post, yikkies I do not think I have oiled frequently enough as I do not use it every week... I promise I will do better. Off to oil now

My Daughter has one and she loves it. She pieces and quilts with it. Read your manual and follow those directions.

I've had mine maybe two yrs and it's loved any thread I've put in it. Pull your manual out and check for the oil ports. Basically it's all the holes on the bed, on top and the bobbin area. Have fun!
