half square triangle my MSQC

Just watched Jenny's latest tutorial on the half square triangle. What a lovely quilt. Will have to go thru my scraps and stash to make one. Hope you also enjoy watching it.

looks like she uses her old method of sewing around a square, then cutting on the diagonal. Be aware that this will result in HST with bias edges, which need to be treated with care or they will easily stretch out of shape.
Pretty quilt, though.

I use the Strip tube ruler from Cozy quilts which also leaves your HST with Bias edges. I find that as long as I starch my fabric before getting started I don't really have any issues - just my experience. I do love HST and QST there are so many ways to lay them out. Have fun

True the bias edges have to be handled without stretching, but this is such a cute pattern...could also be done making HSTs the " safe" way... Of course cutting size would have to adjusted.......

I tried her way and mine din`t come out even. I don`t have any trouble the old way. wish she would give the unfinished measurments in her videos.
What size should they be I using charms?
Thanks Glale

5" square yields approximately a 3 1/4" unfinished HST, so 2 3/4" finished.

Thanks that`s an odd size

I am currently making this quilt. I have discovered the greatest ruler ever. Even though I rarely see Jenny square her blocks, I always do. I use the Bloc-loc ruler to square up my triangles. It has a groove on the bottom which locks on the seam and doesn't let the ruler slip. The triangles made from sewing the 2 charms together end up being 2 1/2" unfinished. This ruler is a bit pricey but worth every penny. I used to be frustrated making hst's because of ruler slippage when trying to square them up. Not anymore.

That is a beautiful quilt. I have made that with pink fabrics. It was a Christmas gift for my niece. She loved it.
Please do share your finished quilt with us :-)

For those of us who suffer from BES (Bias Edge Syndrome), try this for HSTs. When I found this tutorial it changed my love for making HSTs and I love them even more.
