batting or not? If yes to batting what kind?
 

I am going to make one of these quilts with my sons' old jeans. http://www.equilters.com/library/jea...gallbaros.html Has anyone made one of these quilts? I am wondering about batting. I am thinking about batting for in the "window" between the cotton cloth and the jean backing. Where the jeans will be folded over there will be 2 layers of jeans, which will be heavy (which I want) and so I was thinking in the "window" where it will be 1 layer of cotton and 1 layer of jeans it won't be quite as heavy... and I wondering if batting would build that spot up a bit and make it look nice. BUT what type of batting? I don't want to get too thick and heavy. Please let me know your thoughts Thank you

Wow, that's going to be a LOT of work. Will be anxious to see it completed.
I'd probably put a layer of flannel (being sure to pre-shrink it) instead of batting.

The main thing I have heard about jeans quilts are that they are heavy. If you decide to use batting I would go with a light weight thin polyester.

It seems like I recently read a thread about this quilt and they said it was very heavy and no need to use batting. I would do an advanced search.

Yes, jeans quilts are quite heavy so keep that in thought.

I made one. Batting is definitely not needed. Sorry, I don't have a picture to share. I didn't have a camera or smart phone back then.

I love looking at pictures:o I wish I could see more pictures of this type of quilt finished... so I could study them. How did you feel about this project? It looks like it will come together fairly easy..... did you put a binding on yours or just let the edges be the edge of the quilt (they will be folded edges of jeans). Did you fray your ends to make the jean a rag quilt "window"?

meyert, no binding, no fraying, but a little did naturally occur after washing. It was one of my first quilts. When I was done, I thought I would never do another one, but I was very pleased with how it turned out. I'm sure it still survives, somewhere ;-)
