Restoring a Child's Singer Machine-1910-14
 

I am usually a reader only, but I have 2 childrens' Singer machines that was my Mother's and Mother-in-law's. They both work, but need cleaning and TLC very badly. Could someone in this group direct me
or give me suggestions? I think one is a 1910 and a 1914, but have no manuals or pictures. I will try and post a few pictures if I can get the pictures to post. I am anxious as I finally purchased the short needles and anxious to clean and polish. Are they considered a chain stitch since there is no bobbin case? I will appreciate any info. Thanks. I'm nowhere near knowledgeable about the toy machines but I think they are Singer model 20s and are chain stitchers. Take a look at the stickies here and watch Muv's videos. Cleanup should be the same as any other machine.
A decent metal polish should do wonders for the surface rust.

They are definitely toy chain stitch sewing machines----where did you find the shorter needles for the machines? I have a toy Sears Kenmore I am looking for needles for.

I agree they are Singer 20 machines. They both should take a 24x1. See http://www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/toys/tsmneedles/. I purchased some on Ebay.

Someone on here had put a link to a manual for the singer toy sewing machine. Not sure if it has cleaning instructions.

Hello! I purchased the 24x1 size needles at the Lancaster quilt show. I have seen them on eBay and they are cheaper than what I paid. I think I've seen them also on the site they usually recommend for Singer parts and supplies. I just visited the sites that Farmhousesewer recommended and they have them also. I intend to but 1 or 2 more from them. Slimfeather.
