Fabric Choices - Input needed Part 2
2 Attachment(s)
As a follow up to my recent thread on choosing fabrics for my Disappearing Hourglass quilt, http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...d-t249402.html I pulled some other fabrics and made some practice blocks. I would appreciate any input! I only want to use 3 or 4 of these fabrics, not all 7. The practice blocks are on my design wall in no particular order.
Thanks!! |
I like them all but the pattern is not as prominent on 3 and 5 from a distance. I would just separate the two lighter ones with the darker ones and continue. Take a look at Jenny's video of the quilt and you will see some of her blocks are less prominent too but it still makes a pretty quilt. Neat Stack & Whack blocks too.:)

Is that the background fabric you plan to use?

I like 1, 2, and 4. I prefer the greater contrast than you get with the other fabrics.
I don't care for 3 and 5. |
I like 4 the best. If using just 3 fabrics with the background, I would choose 1, 4, and either 6 or 7 but not both (they are very similar).
Edit: Looking at the blocks together from a distance, I like the depth added by the darker fabric so I would add that in too. You could also add one of the light fabrics, but both would be too much. A few very light and very dark blocks would add interest; too many will compete with the medium-tone blocks. |
I agree with Tartan. I love all the fabrics they are so beautiful.

I would choose 6 over 7, but not use both, as they are so similar. 1 seems a little heavy close-up, but it's effective from a distance. I think it's refreshing to have a light fabric in the mix, and I prefer 3 over 5. If going with four fabrics, I'd use 2, 3, 4 and 6. But I think the first six would be very nice, as well.
