Hexagon Quilts
 

I am just amazed at the interest in hexagon quilts lately.

Talk about going back to another era!!!

What goes around comes around. Sometimes the quick and easy quilts catch my eye -- then all of a sudden I fall in love with the quilts that take a lot of time and attention to detail. I guess sometimes we like to challenge ourselves!

I have a tin full of cut Hexies, some finished waiting patiently to get included in the Hexie community. They are great a take along project and "I don't know what to do with my hands" TV project. The best thing is that they can be really stunning. For me it's slow going since I try to hand quilt at least one or two projects a year, sew down my bindings, and occasionally knit or crochet items that are usually gifts, so have to get them done. I guess I'll have to make a dedicated effort to get at them (along with the dresden plates, and yo-yo's. Anyone for 24/7?

Hexagons have been popular in papercrafting lately too.

Yes, lots of quilting items such as fabric and patterns come and go and then get reinvented and become a trend for a while. Look at Aunt Grace's repro fabrics being reprint by Marcus Bros. The old English piecing has basically retired with newer and quicker techniques. LOVE not having to do all that basting!! They are such an easy project to take "on the go".

I have to disagree with you on this one. :) I do my paper piecing the old way and enjoy it very much. The basting is relaxing for me. judy j

A hexagon quilt is on my wish list. I'm just not sure how to start.

Me too Judith Ann!! The basting takes no time at all and lasts for as long as it takes for me to get around to stitching them together. I had glued some the Sue Daley way a few months ago. When I tried sewing them together last week, the glue had dried and the fabric had come loose from the paper. Big mess! I'm sticking to basting!!

I agree with judith ann. Basting is also relaxing for me.

hsweany, there are many tutes on the internet for doing the hexagons. And several different methods. Do a search and "just do it!" However, I will warn you, it is addicting.
