Thrift Store Score -yoyos! Are these old or repro?
6 Attachment(s)
I finally saw something in a thrift shop I couldn't pass up:
I got them home and laid them all out; these are 9 stacks of 5 blocks; each block is 6" square. 45 blocks! I've looked at the stitching and I think these were made by more than one person. Some stitches are pretty messy, some are very neatly done. The fabrics are interesting and I wish I knew how to tell how old they are. Does anybody have any ideas? Either on how old these are, or how I can tell? I'm really curious! There isn't any paper or anything inside any of them. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet. I don't like yoyos in quilts very much but I couldn't pass these up. I'm thinking probably tote bags - add a structural lining to the back to serve as the inside of the tote and cover the outside with clear vinyl. That way I'd actually get to use them but they'd be pretty well protected. |
I forgot to say, the best part is...they don't smell! Just a little bit of a "stored too long" smell that I'm sure will fade quickly now that I have them out in the room.

What a find........don't know. For sure. But, the weave seems loose, haven't seen a weave like that in years. Calla

might be feedsack material (a bit looser fabric)
what a great find. would make a nice throw |
I agree, looks like feed sack weave, so my guess is they are old!!!

Perhaps you could make a few smaller items with them- like a tote, table runner, table topper, journal cover, etc. :)

About 380 seams & you're done! Great find!

I learned to make yo-yos when i was very young..over 65 years ago. The stitching looks like it could have been done by children. Maybe a project???

What a find! Looks like you would have enough to sew together for a coverlet.

Snow white and the 7 dwarfs was released in 1937. It was re-released in 1944. I bet with a little research you could find out if that fabric was part of the promotional blitz for either release. Feed sack certainly sounds plausible.
