What do you use?

I want to make placemats and table runners for family for gifts. Do you put something inside the sandwich or just use top and lining? Thanks!

HI, you posted this thread twice. I use scraps of my Hobbs batting because if a plate is HOT or a spill occurs, you don't want a mess on your table.

I quilt fabrics almost weekly for a couple ladies that make tons of placemats and it's allways cotton batting in mid weight.
Heavy weight allows glasses to rock, light weight is so thin that heated dishes can damage wood tables. I like thermolamb for my own projects.

I use Craft Deco bond. It gives the placemat a crisp professional look.

I use Insul-Bright in pot holders and hot pads, Hobbs fusible in placemats or something that is a little crisper. I might try some Deco bond, I think I still have some from my purse making days.

I use the Bosal inserts. The placemats really look great when done. I buy them on sale.

I have always used my Warm and Natural. I use it for everything....big, small, and in between.

If you want to put hot dishes on them, Insulbright. If you are just going to use them as placemats, I like Thermore. Its a thin poly and will not shrink. I used it in placemats for my parents and they have not had any problems with it. Just depends on what you will use on them. JMHO.
