Special BD gift, a mini with 80 charm pieces
 

My DD's MIL is celebrating her 80th BD today in Holland. Now what quiltlet idea could I come up with to make it special for her. How about 80 different fabrics? Okay no problem with my scrap bag. A 20 x 4 setting would work, but what if I make it a Dutch flag? Easy it's a RWB tricolor, but um 80 doesn't play nice divided by 3. I still liked the idea--I thought, and rethought and a discovered a solution--this design of 32 red/16 white/32 blue snippets. Now what about a backing--perfect choice, this IOWA fabric from 2014 All Iowa Shop Hop fabric. Cut out our home area of the state and drew a heart where our farm is located. In my scrap pile I also found the bias cut Iowa binding just the length I needed--another score.

She has 2 options to display with: corner triangles or by the magnet I've attached to the back.
