Quilt Show Question
 

Hi, I'm new here so I don't know if anyone here can answer my question but I was wondering how people go about volunteering for quilt shows. I don't know much about quilt shows but from what I've read it sounds like a lot of them need volunteers to help out but I have no idea where I would go or who to talk to about it. I'm asking because I just found out that there is a quilt show coming to Syracuse NY this summer and I'd love to participate in it if I can.

Welcome to the board, when you contact the person you could also (if you're interested) ask about being one of the white glove ladies. They are the ones who stand near the quilt so that if someone wants to see the back of it they lift it up. Good grief I can't think of what they are called.

Welcome to the board. Quilt show are always looking for volunteers. Not difficult but usually a lot of standing. Best part is you get in for free !!

Being a volunteer is a great way to participate in some of the large national/international shows. I know the Houston International Quilt Show has 'quilt angels' or 'white glove' volunteers.

ManiacQuilter2 is right. Volunteers are ALWAYS needed. My sister was in charge of our last Quilt Show, and we had lots of trouble getting volunteers. You will be welcomed with open arms. You can even sit at some of the tables, so you may not have to do much standing, unless you want to. There are folks who relieve the vendors when they need a "rest room break," the white glove ladies, ticket takers, quilt raffle ticket sellers, fat quarter basket raffle ticket sellers, guild booth money takers, door prize people, loud speaker talkers, etc.

I hope you have already contacted the quilt show people, and I bet you have an answer almost instantly!

Volunteering at a big show is exciting but it's a lot of work. All the work is done by volunteers and show host employees.

Thanks for all the responses. That's good to hear that volunteers are always needed. I haven't contacted them yet but I definitely will. I don't mind if it involves a lot of standing. I'm one of those crazy people who loves participating in stuff like this.

I think the show in Syracuse is AQS. Go to their website and I believe you might find a spot to volunteer if you are a member of AQS. Should be a great show.
