Need topping ideas
Having friends over to play cards and would like to make an angel food cake but not sure what kind of topping would be good for this cake. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I remember my grandmother used to put strawberries over the angel food cake but I believe she used to cut up the strawberries and put sugar on them and put them in a bowl for a day to make it a little like a syrup??? Thanks for any ideas.

My mother used to use a can of pineapple tidbits, put them either the juice in a saucepan (save a bit of the liquid for about 2 tablespoons cornstarch) heat the pineapple and add the cornstarch liquid to thicken. Cool and serve with cake.

Any fruit topping would work. Either canned or fresh. Whipped cream is always an added bonus!

Fruit pie filling would also work.

I love 7 minute frosting on Angel Food cake.

Another good topping or filling is to mix a 4-serving box of instant pudding with 1 1/2 cups of milk. When set, fold in a small tub of whipped topping (the size that's usually on sale for around $1 during the holidays). Serve with the cake slices. Vanilla flavor, lemon, or chocolate are all tasty. Lemon appeals to me today, but I don't have any angelfood cake on hand, lol.

If you want fruit topping it's easy to make. Just cut your fruit, peaches, berries, plums, into small pieces and add sugar to taste. Take out about 1 cup and smash it with your potato masher. Mix that back into your pieces and let it sit. We just let it sit for an hour or so. Plop that on your cake slices and add some whipped cream. If you like apples then tried sautéed apples. Peel and cut up the apples, put then in a skillet with sugar, some water, a tablespoon of butter and what ever spices you like, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. Gently cook over a med heat until they are soft. Serve warm or cool.

Yep, the strawberries the way your Gram did them is just yummy! And you could add whipped cream, too. The strawberries can be sliced or mashed after you hull them. Then add sugar to taste. The don't really have to wiat overnight, but just an hour or two to let the flavors meld. Enjoy whatever you choose to do.

My Dad would some drizzle a piece with honey.

My favorite is to top a slice with strawberries, either fresh or frozen, and top with whipped cream--or Cool Whip.
