Need a suggestion
 

I don't get to log on very often but every time I have a question or need help I come here. That being said the project is to make 24 x 24 in toppers for my glass end tables. We live in the family room and I hate these tables because they are constantly smeary looking. I bought some 5 inch charm packs but don't want to just sew these together. Need something a little more interesting.
Any suggestions you have would be welcomed. I have looked online at various sites without finding anything I like.

I was almost going to say Boxed Squares, but 5 inches is not long enough. How do you feel about pin wheels?

The old standby D9P would work for those charm squares. Or just cut each charm in half, sew a one inch coordinating color strip in between the halves which will give you a new 5" square block. Alternate each one horizontally/vertically to make a simple cobblestone pattern. You can sew a one inch sashing strip between the blocks and rows if you want.

This is a cute pattern that I received for Xmas. Made some really cute table toppers from charm squares:

I had thought about the D9P also but didn't know if anyone had any better ideas. The nancy notions pattern is really nice but only 18 x 18, I really want to cover these tables. I appreciate the help and it's one of those things where you'll know it's right when you see it. Haven't seen it yet. Maybe some other people will have a go at it.

One big log cabin in center on point w blender corners and one or two borders. The center could be multi colored or a coordinating or contrast color from your decor. A border of small checkerboard squares might make a nice accent around the log cabin center.

If it were me I would just quilt on a solid piece of fabric. Make the stitch pattern the point of interest. For me using pattern fabric would feel to busy for an end table. Just a thought :).
