Brown Sugar Pound Cake
I have been making this cake for over 30 + years, always a hit. Enjoy!
Brown Sugar Pound Cake ˝ cup shorting 1 lb. light brown sugar 1 cup sugar 5 eggs 3 cups sifted flour ˝ tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup chopped nuts Beat together butter and shorting. Gradually add sugars,cream thoroughly. Beat in egg one at the time. Sift together dry ingredients;add alternately with milk and vanilla to the creamed mixture. Stir in nuts.Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350. Cool10 minutes, remove from pan. Pour glaze over hot cake. Glaze 2 Tsp. butter 6 Tsp. cream ˝ tsp. vanilla ˝ chopped nuts Blend together well. |

That is one of the old recipes with WAYYYY too much sugar. I'd like to see it redone with less sugar. Using butter for the shortening would give it a lot of flavor, and you wouldn't need all that sugar.

Sounds delicious. I am going to make it exactly as you say - 30 year recommendation sounds good to me. A special treat once in awhile is fine for me.
