Brown Sugar Pound Cake
 
I have been making this cake for over 30 + years, always a hit. Enjoy!



Brown Sugar Pound Cake

1 cup butter
˝ cup shorting
1 lb. light brown sugar
1 cup sugar
5 eggs
3 cups sifted flour
˝ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts

Beat together butter and shorting. Gradually add sugars,cream thoroughly. Beat in egg one at the time. Sift together dry ingredients;add alternately with milk and vanilla to the creamed mixture. Stir in nuts.Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350. Cool10 minutes, remove from pan. Pour glaze over hot cake.

Glaze
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 Tsp. butter
6 Tsp. cream
˝ tsp. vanilla
˝ chopped nuts

Blend together well.

That is one of the old recipes with WAYYYY too much sugar. I'd like to see it redone with less sugar. Using butter for the shortening would give it a lot of flavor, and you wouldn't need all that sugar.

Sounds delicious. I am going to make it exactly as you say - 30 year recommendation sounds good to me. A special treat once in awhile is fine for me.

Yes, as long as it is large enough. I make it in bread pans and freeze them too!
