Flower Power Wall Hanging

Here's another one I just finished. I started this in an applique class by Gina Perkes last summer at quilt camp up here in Flagstaff; and she's coming back again this July--I'm already signed up for some of her free motion classes! The applique techniques, including some bobbin work with some heavy, sparkly threads, were a lot of fun! I finally added some borders and got to work on the quilting. This piece finished at 22# x 24". I did all the quilting on my Juki 2010 using a polyester thread called Magnifico by Superior. I really like the sheen it adds to the piece. :)

Thanks. I did the quilting on my Juki, a domestic machine; not a long arm.

I really like your quilt. The flower is very pretty, though simple. But it makes such a special background for your fabulous quilting. It is just perfect!

Yes, the machine applique was designed to help teach techniques, not particularly intricate applique. That part was fun and fast! I definitely spent more time on the quilting than on the applique. :p

Wendy, you are just getting better and better. Amazing!!! Your flowers look look like they have texture. What type of fabric is it?

Hope you enter this somewhere; it's just fantastic!

Thanks Linda! The flower and black leaves are Ultrasuede applied with a raw edge technique with bobbin work in Razzle Dazzle thread along the edges. It's really easy to work with, you just have to be careful not to touch it with a hot iron since it is a synthetic and will melt. One of the nicest things about working with it is that the edges do not fray!
