My New/Old Machine
1 Attachment(s)
Found this on craigslist in the next city over. SO I was able to take a look at her before I bought. She needs a new belt, but everything turned nicely. I'll give her a spa day in probably June unless I hit a gold mine. I've been saving up for a treadle and she fit the bill. Cabinet is not in perfect condition, but I won't refinish it. The decals are in fairly decent shape as well. Can't wait to run some fabric through her to see the stitching. My sewing machine maintenance/repair expert said she's a 1925, and a major workhorse. Said I was lucky to find one locally. True, we don't get many on the market. The younger woman who sold it said it was her grandmother's. She remembered her mother doing some sewing on it, but she doesn't sew at all. So she was getting ride of it. LUCKY ME.

Very nice old "red eye" 66.
should be a very satisfying machine to work on. |
You will enjoy this machine. My wife just started treadling with a 66 redeye and she likes treadling again after over 60 a year break.

I also have a red eye, but it has been turned into a hand crank. I'm not sure I will leave it that way. The motor was trashed and I don't have a cabinet for it, so I may just give it away to the Sewing Machine Project. |
What a lovely old Singer! I'm sure she is happy to be in your home...

Wonderful find!
I've never sewn on a treadle, I'd like to try it some day, even though I don't currently have the space to have one of my own. I need to keep finding local sewing people to make friends with - SOMEONE in this town has a treadle they'd like to show off, I'm sure of it! LOL |
Treadles are fun. Kind of like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time when you're learning though.
Nice Red Eye. I like Singer 66s. It should be a good machine for you. Rodney |
if she turns over smooth, give her some oil and grab a long piece of plastic aquarium tubing.... and give her a try. the clear plastic air line sold for fish tanks for a few bucks has worked well for almost two years on my treadle stand... tried 3 differing machines in it.....it is easy .. wrap it around snip it with scissors and just use a little cut off piece to roll up and make a connector !
