Inquiring minds want to know....maybe....

Had always wanted to try a string quilt...already had the package of 10" papers but they just layed there waiting for motivation....reviewed Jennie Doan's tutorial on how to do them and inspiration struck at the very end of the presentation when she said she had just used 2 1/2" strips she had left over from other projects and my mind raced to the unused jelly rolls I had purchased through the years but never used. So to make a long story shorter I jumped into my new adventure not knowing how it would turn out. So, for anyone interested, you can get 25 (10") blocks from 1 jelly roll (PLUS some left over) and 14 white jelly roll strips for center of each block (you can get 2 centers out of each strip). I love how mine turned out. It is 48" x 48" and it will serve dual purposes....cover for table in my quilting room, throw it in the car for spontaneous picnics, throw it on the grass or floor for baby to play on, etc. Plus, there are pieces left to sew together and make multicolored borders on pot holders or pillow cases or for applique on some other inspiration!

Sorry...knew that would probably come up but my computer has died and all I have is my Kindle Fire. If you go to Jennie Doan's String Quilt tutorial and watch to the end you'll get an idea of how that size would work up....again...sorry...

It is amazing how rich looking string quilts come out, well done!

I've got those 10" square papers waiting for me as well. I've also got 2.5" strips with matching 10" squares; thanks for the inspiration to try using them as a string quilt with a secondary design.

Okay! Know the picture leaves a lot to be desired...kind of blurred but the prints are really pretty. I used Deb Strains "FRESH" jelly roll and some of a pure white jelly roll for the center strip of each block and the borders and will, also, use for the binding. Final measurements with borders is 52" x 52". My son was able to get the picture into this format, definitely not me!!! LOL

It turned out very pretty, great job. The picture isn't so bad, at least we can see how pretty it is. I love making string quilts too.

I think it is very pretty!

It looks great! Now I know what to do with some of the Jelly Rolls I have just waiting to be used.
