Chemo Comfort Quilt Question
1 Attachment(s)
Good morning experts! I finished the top of a quilt I'm making for a friend who's a cancer patient this weekend. I'm agonizing over whether or not to use batting. I got flannel for the backing, and am not sure what to do about the batting. Any advice?

I lost my BFF to ovarian cancer 1 year ago. She always complained of feeling cold, especially the few days after treatment. I would use a light batting, I used Warm & White.

So bright and beautiful - it looks happy! Your friend will love it. I would go with the batting but you could always use flannel for a thin bat if you didn't want it real heavy. I think I have read that chemo patients get cold easily but not positive about that. It will certainly be a comfort either way.

Okay. I picked up some quilter's dream, the lightest loft this weekend, but then was just unsure what's best! Thank you so much!

Jan, I'm so sorry you lost your friend. My friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was in surgery within a week! The surgery went well, but he's back in with an infection. Either way, I want to get this out to him as soon as I can. Thank you again!

What a bright and cheery quilt! I am sure your friend will love this.

Batting is always good, you can pull up the quilt if you are cold and turn it back if you are warm, but if it is not warm enough nothing will help. Consider putting some pockets on it to hold books, or magazines and "little things" that might be handy to have close.

I made my niece a quilt as she is going through chemo and I've always been told they get cold there. I used a lightweight batting and fleece for backing. She loves it.

I'd recommend batting: most infusion centers are cold on top of patients being cold from low blood counts. Best wishes for your friend's recovery!

My local quilt guild is making chemo quilts for a local cancer treatment center as our charity project this year. We are putting batting in all of them. Size is a minimum of 50" x 60" up to twin bed size.
