New Companion Treadle Machine

I have a New Companion and can't find any info on it! There is no serial number, no stamp, no name, nothing! It has New Companion on the machine itself and the stand on both ends. I would like to purchase a manual, but don't have a date the machine was made. I've searched everywhere with no luck. Any pointers on where to look for this would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Candy

Several things about the machine remind me of White Rotary machines. The drawers and the irons look like White's. The entire left side of the machine looks like White's. It is an early machine.

Welcome! Pretty machine! Be sure to read the stickies on cleaning and caring for old machines. Muv's videos are really helpful too. Please don't use modern cleaners on it. You can ruin your decals if you do.

Hi Candy,

Beautiful New Companion. Here's a similar manual from the Smithsonian website:

http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollect.../sil10-741.pdf

Looks like a New Home. They use 20x1 needles and use Boye #3 shuttle and bobbin. Some lower a common 15x1 or 2020 needle which is shorter in place of the 20x1. Enjoy.

This is a New Home. I've seen several New Home and White cabinets that look similar, but the machines themselves are very easy to tell apart.

With all the machines I've bought and researched, I've found the leaf tension is another way to identify - as most companies had a unique style they used.

White (and Singer) appear to have never used a leaf tension.

And with top clamp style machines, the attachment sets for most of them are unique to each Company. Once you get to side clamp, they are low, high and slant - and that's it. So not much help in identifying the mfg of the machine.

Thanks for your help. It is identical to mine. I've been reading up on them and if I understand correctly, New Home "makes" New Companion. I haven't used mine in several years, but it ran good and I've kept it covered to protect it. I got 3 needles with it and they all say "# 16" on them. I also got 10 bobbins and many attachments. I've used the hemmer device. Thank you again.

Well, White is a new name for me and I'm not familiar enough with these to tell them apart! Strange they didn't stamp something on the machines somewhere...Thank you for you help...

I appreciate the manual....when I got this machine in '72...there were no computers (except the one I helped the design engineer build for an offshore drilling rig..lol). I used it some to mess with for old times sake, but was self taught.... Now I'm retired and want to play some more..
Thank you for your help..
