Can this be saved?

I just finished a beautiful baby quilt. Definitely the hardest quilt I've made so far. Well my kitty left a gift for me on the quilt! I tried washing it gut there is still a nasty stain on it. Any advice?

What did you do to clean it? Did you dry it in the dryer?

I just used Tide and put it on the clothesline.

I am assuming it was an upchuck type stain? Unfortunately the dyes they use in cat food result in hairballs that leave stains that don't ever seem to come out. I disgusting mix of yellowy bile from kitties tummy and then whatever it is they put in the cat food. You can probably fade it with another wash or two. You can try Grandmas secret spot remover. It is sold loads of places, like JoAnns and on line.

Let us know if you are successful. I never was.

You could also try an Oxyclean type stain remover. It may lift the stain. I've used it on cat upchuck stains on my rugs.

Awe, don't give up, something's bound to work, or at least lighten it enough it's not noticeable! Or can it maybe be appliqued over the spot? Good Luck

This is just my own opinion but I couldn't give a baby quilt to someone knowing the cat threw up/pooped on it even if I got the stain out. I would try some of the above methods and see if it could be saved but I would keep it or use as a wall hanging or something else but not for a baby to lie on. Just my opinion.

I would give it a good soak in Oxiclean, following instructions on label. Then rewash after the stain comes out.

Assuming you get the stain out (I also recommend Grandma's Secret Stop Remover), it will be just as clean as anything else for a baby after you finish and wash it.

There's nothing inherently nasty about a cat stain. JMO.

If I threw away or discarded anything that got something yucky on it, after five children and lots of pets, I would be in the poor house. Baby blankets often get throw up or worse on them. That's why we have water, soaps, bleaches, sanitizers, etc. If the stain can be successfully removed and it probably can, I would have no hesitation gifting it. Try stain removers on a scrap piece of the same fabric.
