Hi Guys Newbie here with questions
I have been quilting ever since I could reach my granny's lap with her of course or he sister Aunt Lizzy. I have both my grannies vintage Singer pump machines which are in working order and I do use those when the power is out. Right now i'm in a pickle my precious daddy died a year ago on Aug 18th and i was left with a 10 acre homestead, now I have put into place a greenhouse to sale seedlings next year as 1 suplimental income but I was thinking my quilting and crafts could also be another as I was left with a 50 grand mortgage payment @ 150.00 a month. My quilts are from repurposed cotton clothing that I cut into strips I make alot of different things String/Strip quilts, Appliques, Rag wreaths, Rag Rugs just to name a few. I have a facebook page already in place of some of my items i've done in the past, I am getting ready to open an Etsy shop and I do craft fairs local but would like folks to leave comments as to where other's are at near them I do travel, also does anyone have any other suggestions on where I can sell?
Thanks Bunches, Connie C |
Welcome to the board from Alabama. You don't say what area you are from so don't know how far you would have to travel to get here but I can give you some of my local area crafts shows if you pm me. I do several a year, sometimes they are good sometimes not, you never know from year to year. Good luck in your endeavours.

Wow Connie...I can only offer good wishes. As far as I know you have the bases covered.
I hope someone with more knowledge will see your post and reply asap. Good luck. |
As ontheriver said give us an idea on location. I'm sure selling in USA would be easier than in the UK. People over here don't understand quilting or the cost.

As I am in Australia I have nothing of use quilting sales wise. With your ten acres, maybe investigate growing fruits/vegetables that are unique or in demand at restaurants/farmer's markets. Herbs maybe. If you are in an area with a lot of cafes and restaurants/tourist area, you could supply direct to the kitchens. Very seasonal, but may be a few extra dollars, also maybe chickens/quails (for eggs).

My favorite show is Shipshewana, Indiana. I don't sell but I certainly buy!. What is your location? By the way, welcome from Illinois.

Welcome to the board. You just asked one of the most popular question. I was able to sell some quilts thru a LQS. Someone I think posted that Connecting Thread takes quilts on assignment. You will have to do some research on past post by using the advance search. Don't sell on eBay, people there are looking for rock bargain prices.

I know nothing about selling items since I have never done such. I do know about inheriting property and not knowing what to do with it. Thankfully, I don't have to make a living from mine. Plus, my sister inherited the other half, and her husband keeps things "moving" on both properties. Welcome from the beautiful mountains of western NC.

Welcome from SC Texas. It sounds like you are off to a good start. I love buying things at craft shows but have never sold anything. Do you do other crafts like jewelry? That sells very well around here. Things like table runners, mug rugs, place mats, hot pads, casserole carriers and bowls made from scraps sell well. Good luck with whatever you do.
