My friends' Owl Quilt...
1 Attachment(s)
My friend & I went to school together one year in the 6th grade & have been friends ever since. She's never had a quilt before & asked if I'd make her one. I was thrilled to make her a quilt & I chose the Hoot's Hollow pattern from the Ribbon Candy Quilt Company. Her bed is an XL Twin, so I had to add 26" to the overall pattern, just to get it the size of her mattress. When I asked about how much she wanted hanging down the sides and end, she didn't want any, but I added 4" to be sure & she did ask later. I made the borders 8-1/2" (2" wider all around). The leaves are backwards because they don't remind me of leaves with all the colors, they look festive this way. Instead of the flat fabric bow, I used a satin ribbon in the yellow owl's top-knot, I painted yellow glints in their eyes and I made three 3-D butterflies which I stitched here & there across the top. She won't get it until Friday & although I've given her updates daily right up until I started quilting it. She's been shut out since so she'd have something to look forward to, as she just lost her mother & I've just been trying to keep her spirits up. She's so excited about it!! All I can say is that UPS man better bring it Friday or she's going to be chasing him down!! LOL!
