Help identifying block, please?

Hi,

I am planning on trying to recreate a quilt made by my gr-grandmother for my grandmother, and would like any help identifying the name of the block/pattern used. As you can tell from the attached photo it was well used and is a bit tattered now. I'm still rather a novice at quilting and hoping it is a pattern to get some hints on more efficient construction.

Thanks.
Ann

Looks like a Navajo Star to me.

Here's a picture I found.

Not sure of pattern, just wanted to say that must have been lovely before the blue fabric disintegrated. I'm in a plain and simple mood this morning!!

It looks like the block called "Double X" to me.

I don't know the name but it looks to me like the block is set on point. Rotate it 45 degrees and the construction elements are clearer. You could sketch out the design and make the blocks any size you want.

I agree with Retiree, I know this block as Double X. Unfortunately, when I Google it, there are many blocks called Double X, but it did come up. Beautiful quilt. I am sure you can make it.

i drew it out in EQ and by the time i came back here, Retiree suggested double x. i looked in block base and it is, indeed, double x. anyway, this is what i drew.

it's a square in a square in a square with HSTs at the corners, set on point. i drew it as a 12" block and the proportions came out well.

QuiltnNan, you are an absolute gem! Always so helpful to others--in this case, you have drawn out a pattern that will be simple enough for a beginner to follow. Bless you!
