I don't think even The Gurus could save these three machines...

My weekend wanderings took me back to Crookston, MN to see the second antique store. I did score some original bits to my Fashion Mate 252, but that's for another posting.

They had three old, old and dirty (as in filthy), old and rusty, old and neglected to death, machines.

One was a White Rotary in what I think is called a brown 'alligator' or 'crackle' finish. Correct me if I'm wrong. The second is a Singer Sphinx, and the third was a new-to-me "New Automatic."

No, I didn't even consider purchasing one of them. I have my doubts that even the most experienced Guru here could do too much for them...but I could be wrong.

First the "New Automatic," notice the enhanced lighting!

I will have to add the next photos as a "reply."

And the bobbin area...the cover plate was missing.

Is this an oscillating bobbin?

Well all right then.... hehe

I would see no reason that that machine could not be sewing the day I got it...

That is a VS or Vibrating Shuttle. I would need to research the machine or see the bottom to determine if it was a rotating hook or oscillating hook (I suspect rotating)

So to clarify my comment, there are three components
Shuttle - The bullet thing that moves back and forth (Vibrating) in front (in this case to the right) of the Hook (passing through the loop created by the needle)
Bobbin - the thread holding part that goes into the shuttle
Hook - the part that is mounted to the base of the machine that either rotates or oscillates to manipulate the thread that came off the bobbin through the shuttle.

Hope this helps

There was a serial number of sorts. I could make out the C772

Honestly Caroline it doesn't look that bad.

I have seen many machines even looking worse than this that people have redone and it is so amazing. I can't buy a machine like that as I have no strength in my hands to do the work. I do think the "guru's" could do it. What was the asking price?

Just so we are clear... IN this case the term "Guru" translates to "does not know when to quit!"

SewBeadIt...I think it was $25, but I could call them and double check.
