Jean brown lap frame
 

Does anyone use the Jean browns lap frame to hand quilt? I have been looking at that one, or the one by thimble lady that you sit on. I can not decide which one would be bettwr for me when sitting in recliner.

I had a very similar one that a friend had made for me, but I didn't like the angle that my hands had to be at because of the depth of the frame stand. I prefer to use my square q-snap plastic frame and when I want a change of angle I can rest it on my knees (yes I also quilt in my recliner)

I have been using one for 10 years and really like it. It has enough weight to it to make the rocking motion work. The bars under the frame are never in the way of my under hand and the base is very comfortable. I quilt in my recliner.

When I was handquilting I tried all types of hoops. I have one that sits in my lap swivels and tilts in every direction. It was hand made and sold at a local quilt show. It is my favorite hoop. I like the sit upon hoops but you have to sit straight so if that is not comfortable for you, you won't like it. Here is picture of my hoop. It swivels on a ball.

I paid $35 for it, my whole quilt show budget back then. LOL I'm so glad I bought it. I remembered thinking well if I bought fabric it will be used up but this will last.

I'm with Onebyone. During the many years I was able to hand quilt, the very best hoop I found was one that tilted and swiveled on a base in my lap. It was so much easier not to have to support the whole weight of the hooped quilt with my hand/wrist/arm. Mine is made by Grace, but is the same principle as the one pictured in Onebyone's post.

Agree! I have the Hinterberg lap hoop, which you can sit on your lap or under your legs, and it swivels any direction, too. Worth every penny!
