Help with a Christmas idea for mom

1 Attachment(s)
I'm pretty new to quilting myself, but my mom loves to do it. I'm thinking about getting her fabric to make this quilt, but I don't know how much she would need. I want to get the material for her and surprise her for Christmas with a new project to help with the "cabin fever" I know she'll catch in a month or so. How much material would you suggest for basically everything (to make the squares, the center picture, for the backing, and the black lining between everything) to make it for a full size bed? I think I've figured out where to get the appliqués for the middle picture, but if you know of anywhere I could get deer ones I'd appreciate it!
Thanks!

Without lots of measurements I would not hazard a guess. If your Mom is a quilter, I suggest you give her a $200-300 gift certificate to a quilt store and let her buy the fabric to make this quilt!!

This might have been a kit at one time. No one knows for sure.
I agree to give her the money or a gift cert. to a store or joanns.
she can get the silhouettes on line someplace or draw them herself.
Let her go shopping for it so she has enough fabrics to do it herself in colors she likes.
You don't want to come up short on any fabric she may need.

the quilt is called Midnight Bear and it looks like it is a commercial quilt sold in many dept. stores

here's a pattern for sale that has many of the same elements... maybe she would like that? and the pattern would give all the material requirements. http://www.cottonpatchfabrics.com/cg...es=0&lastmenu=

I have a book with all those elements in it. Got it many years ago from "That Patchwork Place" and made a quilt similar to what you want. I suggest you visit a quilt shop and they may have a book that would fit your needs. A Gift certificate to a quilt shop for you mom is also a great idea. Good Luck. By the way. The book is called "All Thru the Woods"

First step is to find and buy the pattern. Go look here to see if you can find the pattern or book. Be sure to look at the individual patterns. Also check eBay and other sites (like Walmart online) that sell books:

Then give her a gift certificate at her favorite store where she buys her fabric. She may have some of this fabric already in her stash. REMEMBER, it is the thought that counts at Xmas. Best Wishes.

That's a very thoughtful gift!

Do you live near your mom? It might be fun to take her on a shopping spree and let her pick out the fabrics herself. Personally that's what I'd prefer, but of course you know your mom best!

I vote for giving mom money so she can purchase the fabric where she wants. Remember though the quilt also needs batting and backing. Maybe go on shopping trip with her and let her pick out the pattern. I don't think this is something you can just decide for her....save the shopping trip until after Christmas, if that works best. Or shop on line. Just my $.02 worth.
