Needle for a Kenmore 117.560
 

I have a Kenmore that I am restoring and am looking for some new needles for it. I tried a new singer needle, but it is hitting the needle plate. I was able to get it to work using the hole in the needle plate to guide the needle while I tightened the clamp, but it just didn't feel right. The manual just referenced needles 1 through 5 based on fabric and thread. Does this Kenmore require a special needle?

As far as I know it should just be a standard 15x1 needle. All my other White made Kenmores use them.
Check the basics. Is it facing the right way(most likely problem)? The flat on the needle should face the needlebar. Is there any gunk in the needlebar? Is the needlebar bent?

Rodney is correct, the machine uses a 15x1 style needle. Flat to the right, threads left to right.

If the needle is hitting the needle plate somethings either bent or in wrong.

Is this a low or high shank machine. My 158 9411 uses the usual needles but it is high shank and I can not find a walking foot for it. good luck getting is working correctly.

i know this is off topic but i think Daves Bernina shop in Provo Utah may have a couple old high shank walking foot still on their racks. You could call the ladies at the counter and see if they still have them. I saw them there over the summer when i was dropping off my moms Bernina for service. I think they were priced under twenty.

Had a thought about your Kenmore and modern Singer needles. Modern Singer needles have a tiny punch deformation on either side of the top of the needle. "Sometimes" these little deformations will not fit in the needle grove of older machines and cause an out of alignment situation. After cleaning the needle grove in the needle bar, try a different brand of needles. Schmetz or Organ are good ones to use.

I have two of these machines, different model numbers but the same design made by White and they both use the standard 15x1 needles. I can't remember ever using a modern Singe needle in them, so what I've just said is theory to be explored.
