Do you have your machine plugged into a surge protector?
 

I don't have a surge protector for my sewing machine but was curious as to how many of you have one & what kind do you use? In stormy weather I always unplug my machine and also my computer but think I need a "good" protector since my machine is computerized. All advice would be appreciated.

Always! And I even unplug that if I'm home and it's storming. They have cheap ones and decent ones. Some of the decent ones will even guarantee against damages. They had quite a variety at Home Depot.

Yup! My machine is only plugged in when I'm working on something. When I'm not the machine/cabinet is moved to another location so I can work on paper projects.

I have a surge protector for each of my machines and my expensive ones I try to remember to unplug even at that. Last year we lost a refrigerator (almost new) and the year before a freezer to power surges. We now have a surge protector on every major appliance.

ok, I forgot to ask what do you feel like is the best one to buy (brand & voltage/watts/power) and about how much do they cost? I need to get one for my machine & computer (I have a wimpy one on my computer).

My machine is plugged into a surge protector only. The computer, however, is plugged into a combo surge protector/battery backup. I do leave the computer on 24/7. So if there is a power outage, I have time to power everything down properly. Can not tell you brand/wattage/etc. Check them out at one of the big box stores. Way more info there - even if it's just on the package.

I have mine plugged into a surge protector and backup battery. If the power goes out, the backup battery lets you shut everything down normally. If you are in the middle of an embroidery, you can record the stitch # to restart when the power returns.

All my electronics are plugged into surge protectors and I installed a whole house surge protector a couple years ago. Appliances are much more vulnerable now and there does not have to be a storm to have a power surge. Check on Amazon.com. For my TV & computer, I have surge protectors that shut down power to everything plugged into them with the touch of a button which is on a extended wire so easily accessible. These protectors even shut down power to electronics at the end of 11 hrs. if the button is not touched to extend the hours. Saves on that phantom electric draw that TV, Cable, etc. use up.
