*MY* New Placemats are done!

Hi again! I just finished something that I get to keep! This is my fourth set of placemats I've made in the last year, and these I'm keeping for us! My husband and I travelled this fall for two months in our 5th wheel and I took lots of quilting projects to work on, as I always take my Janome 6600P along. I have a Sweet 16 at home and I was going to be missing it terribly when it came to quilting the placemats I wanted to make. A while back I'd come across this blog Amy's Free Motion Adventures http://www.freemotionquiltingadventu...th-rulers.html where she discussed quilting with rulers on her home machine, which just happens to be the same as mine. I sent away for the additional feet I needed and took them along on holiday to try them out. I've been using rulers on my Sweet 16 and really like ruler work in my quilting. So long story short, these and the last placemats I posted were completely quilted on my DSM using a ruler foot (and an open toe foot). I am so impressed with how well my DSM did on these two projects. As with every project I do, I try to do something new. Not necessarily earth shattering new, but a new thing to me so I keep developing as a quilter. This time I used two layers of batting, as we often preheat our dinner plates to help keep our food warm at the table and like a little protection for the table when the plates are so warm. I found that a bit challenging when it came to quilting as between the seams and the extra batting the foot would catch, so I'd have to raise and lower it with the adjustment on the hopping foot for my DSM. Additionally, I spray baste so the extra layer of sticky between the bats was exactly that, a little sticky. But the machine handled it pretty well with few hiccups. The other thing I tried was my Ultimate Stencils I'd recently purchased from Cindy Needham's website. Great time saver!
