How to quilt my wall hangings.

1 Attachment(s)
I've gotten into doing some wall hangings that are more art than traditional. But now I'm not sure how to have them finished. I could do some stitching by hand (never done hand quilting before), I could quilt-by-check (which I usually do), or I could try to do myself on my home sewing machine (very challenging for me).

Even if I had a long arm quilter do it, I'm not sure how to have them quilted.

Suggestions? (BTW - the picture is upright in my file. Sorry that it has come out sideways here)

That turned out very nice; I like the simplicity & especially the piece in her hand spilling outside the frame.

Looks like a good project to get you started hand quilting. You could even do her features by hand quilting them in colored thread. The piece is small enough that if you didn't like hand quilting it wouldn't be a lot to rip out and do some other method. Good luck. Show us what you do end up doing.

Deciding on how to quilt my quilts is one of the hardest parts for me so I don't have any good suggestions for you here but wanted to say that you did a great job on the wall hanging. Some day I want to learn to paper piece like you. Thanks for sharing your masterpiece.

Really beautiful piece. Love the fabric spilling out of the frame.
I'm sure some of our resident experts will be along to give you lots of ideas.

Wow! This is so cooool! Is there a pattern? How big is it? I would happily have this hanging on my wall! "Understated Elegance" If it was mine I would not put any features on the face as my first reaction when I looked at was "I wonder what "she" is thinking/pondering?" Please do post a pic when it is finished.

Wow , you are very talented. I also like the scarf spilling over.

I would do a very close design in the cream area to make the figure stand out, maybe pebbles. Outline the lady. Then do vines on half the quilt in her hand as if she was doing it. Straight lines on the border, but skip the quilt draping out of the frame.

That is a great suggestion, tesspug. However you do it, Corky, it will be gorgeous! I also love the piece going past the frame. I have done a couple of things that went past the border, and had a great time doing it.
