Singer 15-91 Bobbin Winding Issue
 

Hi, I given a Singer 15-91, which I really like, two months ago. I has one bobbin with it. When you wind the bobbin on the machine you put the slot on the bobbin in pertrudig spot on the outside of the machine. The problem I have is the bobbin comes out of the pertruding spotwhen I wind it.
Can you help me? My conclusion is either the bobbin is the wrong kind or the pertrudig spot is worn.

It's the wrong size 15 bobbin. I'm sure someone has a better explanation than I but the multi holed ones don't fit in a Singer 15, only in Japanese 15's.

If that were true Singer would've had to sell a whole different bobbin for their 15 class machines. I don't personally own a 15-91 but I have friends that do and as long as it's a good quality 15 class bobbin it will work. The problem is finding a good quality bobbin any more. I used to buy them from Sew Classic back when she tested her bobbins for fit. She doesn't do that any more. Thankfully I've got plenty. My best suggestion is to check Ebay and thrift stores for vintage bobbins or buy new plastic ones, they'll work.

My bobbin does fit well in the bobbin case and sews normal (since it has thread on it). It just doesn't work to wind the bobbin on the machine.
Yeah, I've seen a lot of class 15 bobbins on eBay that aren't made very well. I will keep my eyes open for the vintage/ plastic ones.

:) Bobbin winding can be a chore -- I wind my bobbins on my somewhat never Singer machine for both my 15-91 Singer and my 1978 Kenmore, both of which use the same bobbin

I have several Singers, but not a 15-91. However, I do have a bad habit of winding bobbins on "whatever is available."

One thing I sometimes do if the bobbin is loose on the post is slip a thin strip of paper over the post before sliding on the bobbin. The paper adds tension and costs practically nothing.

Bobbiin is OK ..... but, in recent years there has been a lot of variation in the grove that fits over the peg on the winder. Some of the newer bobbins have a groove that's so small it won't engage or stay engaged. Sew-Classic has a big notation on the metal Class 15 bobbins she sells to that effect.

As far as I can tell the peg on your winder looks to be a bit worn, but I can't tell for sure. On my Singers and clones with the peg type winder I pic out bobbins that fit the peg for each machine. My current 15-91 hasn't been used yet, (needs major cleaning and service) but I'll take a pic of the winder later today for you.

I am so fed up with most of the new bobbins that aren't made well...etc. Avoid buying bobbins at Wal-mart and JoAnn's, they are generally garbage.
I buy vintage bobbins whenever possible.
I have found that if I buy new bobbins from a dealer, they are great and work like they should. I bought a Pfaff 60 treadle machine, it came with 1 bobbin; thankfully my Pfaff dealer had just what I needed.
My vintage Bernina bobbins would work fine in the bobbin case, but it wouldn't fit the pin on the bobbin winder so that I could wind a bobbin on the Pfaff.

I think your pin may be too worn. Mine can not physically pop out once the lever is lowered, and I can not lower the lever into place unless the bobbin is seated on the pin. I can not see any way to adjust the lever to move it closer either, but maybe there is a shim that could be removed.
