Black or White??

I think I already know the answer but want confirmation:rolleyes:. I am about to LA a quilt that is white, red and black top...the back is black.

I have the backing pinned and was about to lay the white batting..stop to think..umm, maybe this is wrong and I need black batting, which I don't have. I would have to go out and buy retail prices. I need to have two with black backing by the end of February.

I might just have time to order black.

Did I answer my own question:o

Black will show through the White fabric do you want white to stay white or grey. I would use white as black is a denser colour and not show the White through the same.

I think I'd stick with the white backing as well. I've not used black but I agree with Dottymo that it will probably show through your white fabrics more than the white batting will show through your black fabrics. I've not had an issue with white (in my case actually 'natural') batting showing through on dark fabrics.

Use white batting because a black batt will shadow through the white fabrics on the top. Also, make sure you place the batting right side up so it won't beard through the black backing, and use a new needle.

I recently finished a black quilt using a natural batting. worked great. no problems. Cant tell what's inside.

You can use two battings in your quilt. I use two in most of my quilts.

I agree with this.

It depends on the batting. Poly sometimes will migrate thru your stitching. I just pinned this quilt using natural color of Hobbs 80/20 and haven't noticed any problem yet. (I need to take more recent photo since it is actually pinned ready for quilting)

I used white batting in a mostly black quilt without any problems.

If there is any white in the top, I use white batting. When I have used black backings, even though the front had some white, I have never had the black fabric show through the front.
