What Singer oil can?
 

In my quest to get my 1941 Singer cabinet complete, I want to find the oil can it would have used. Back in 1941, was it a short green can or one of the thumb pump type cans? Does anyone know?

If you have the Singer model 40 cabinet, it is the short green can.

Crud. I thought I included the cabinet number in my post. It's cabinet no 42, the art deco one.

I have seen the green cans in tall and short on Ebay, but you won't like the prices. They run from $10 to $15 at "Buy it Now" prices. Haunt the thrift shops and look in all the old sewing machine cabinets you can find. Sometimes they are included in "sewing notions" on Ebay at better prices. I have found several of the later green and white cans, but haven't apprehended the nice, old, green ones lately. I have the art deco cabinet also for my 201. My daughter's 201 came in a beautiful queen anne cabinet and she needs one also.

My husband used to collect vintage sewing machines. He had 2 of the little green Singer Oil Cans. I still have one left. It is what I consider very good condition.

Over 10 yrs ago I wanted the little oil can for my Featherweight 221 that had belonged to my mother. Well
ordered from Ebay --coming from North Carolina and I paid $40. YES --- Yes $40. including s&h Talk about stupid but the worst part was it was not the right one.
My mom had died and I was trying to get this machine to original --all it needed except latch key - because I had learnt to sew on it in 1950 at 8 yrs old. That started me on the Vintage machine collecting. Since then found many
shapes of oil cans and family gifted some. That short squatty green one is still my favorite but I would like to be able to refill them for use with each machine. Any ideas how to do that ?

I found the correct one in an antique shop for $2 last year!
