Maintenance of Juki TL-2010Q
 

I can't find any reference in my instruction manual as to whether certain gears on my Juki need to be greased. There is information on oiling, which I have been doing assiduously. On my old Singer, there are certain gears to be greased, and clear drawings as to where grease (from a tube) is to be applied. There is no Juki dealer anywhere near where I am. Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

I would contact the company. Bernina doesn't allow us to ever open the machine and tells us where we can put oil. They do want to service the machine every 12 to 18 months. Not sure with Juki.

I have that machine (LOVE it) and in the back of the book, it does show where you should oil it. I am at work now so I don't have the manual handy. Maybe bumping this up will get an answer your way.

You do not grease the gears.
You only oil the machine (metal on metal).

Watch the oil - I've looked at the schedule in the manual - but the Juki isn't going for 8 hours a day. I've tried once a week, and bi weekly to the equivalent of the time specified in the manual. In some places like under the bobbin case and the takeup lever, the oil has dripped. I plan on taking it to a repair shop I know and having the excess oil cleaned out. Maybe when it's apart, they can figure out which part should get more oil more often. It's noticeable now since I'm playing with black cotton which seems to be linty.

If not, I'll have to use the rule I had for my sports car - it made a different sound when down half a quart of oil.

The same happened with the Brother 1500. I finally found oilers that would only drip one drop, but oil still dripped under the bobbin.

My dealer told me to put a drop of oil on the bobbin race hook every time I changed a bobbin! I can tell you, that's WAY too much oil.... I just sort of 'feel it out' on when it may need oiling. Maybe every 10-12 bobbin changes?

Greasing the gears is a different process than oiling the machine. Your OWNERS manual tells you where to put oil, but they generally don't tell you about greasing the gears because the assumption is that if they need greasing that will be taken care of when the owner takes the machine in for it's annual tune up.

Patricia, have you checked with Juki to see if they will let you have a copy of their SERVICE manual? That will probably tell you if the gears need greasing and if so, how often.
