Bernina presser feet attachments

Has any one used the new binding attachments no.87-88. They are rather pricey and wondering if they work as good as I saw on youtube?

I watched the youtube videos and I can say that I wouldn't use these. They do look like they would sew bindings on very nicely. However, the binding strips are bias bindings and I wouldn't take the time to do the prep work to make bias strips. My binding looks good just sewing it on the top and handstitching it to the back.

As pricey as Bernina feet are, I probably wouldn't buy it and it probably also wouldn't work on my older Bernina. If I need binding done quickly by machine, I make the flange binding so the stitching doesn't show. There is a tutorial u-tube video by McCall's Quilting magazine. Otherwise, I hand stitch the binding to the back since it looks much better (IMO :)).

I hand stitch binding to the back too.

It is something that interested you when you saw it so I say give it a try. Always trust your instincts about what you think at first look. I've seen more show quilts with machine sewn binding at the quilt shows now. It is getting more popular to do it that way. It saves time and adds a design element to the quilt.

I've looked at the binding attachment and am not crazy about it because it used a single layer instead of the french fold (double layer) I usually do. I struggled for years trying to sew it down by machine but it always looked ugly. This last year, I found this tutorial , now I can sew my binding on by machine using the flat felling (#71) foot on my Bernina (and this foot is cheaper than the binder attachment). I have been very pleased with this method and would use it for everything but a show quilt.

Love this site as you always learn something new. I hadn't heard about the binding attachment nor had I heard of the flat felling foot. Must take a look.
