Quilters Dream Poly batting
 

I need to get a black batting and am considering Quilters Dream Poly black. I haven't used a poly batting in years and I've never felt a sample of the Quilters Dream Poly. Does the 505 spray baste work on poly batting? How does the Quilters Dream Poly copare to Hobb's 80/20 or Warm & Natural while quilting? Does it handle as well? I'm using a domestic machine, not a long arm.

Quilters Dream makes wonderful batting! Their poly has a lot of loft. I am a longarm quilter so cannot comment about using the spray baste.

You can't compare a poly batting to a cotton batting. You might contact them and ask if they could send you a small sample.

I've been given little sample booklets of Quilter's Dream batting. Maybe they would send you one so you could feel it.

Apparently we were thinking of the same answer at the same time!

OK it appears a lot of the responders are thinking the QD poly batting is like Hobbs polydown or your run in the mill poly. It is NOTHING like that!! I did a quilt using it and I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between QD normal poly and Hobbs 80/20. The QD black poly (and also their white) are low loft and handle like Hobbs 80/20 both in needling, weight and hand/feel. As well as slippage. Polydown and like products tend to shift a lot when DM quilting. QD Poly (select loft) and Midnight Poly (which ONLY comes in select loft) do NOT. They actually kind of grab the fabric like 80/20 does. Regular quilters dream poly and midnight poly should not be confused with their product dream puff which is like regular lofty poly like Hobbs Polydown.

I can't answer your question regarding the spray baste as the one time I used it I hand quilted so stitch basted it. But I suspect, given it's hand and it's low loft it would probably behave quite nicely with spray baste or Elmers School glue basting method.

I have used the Quilters Dream Green poly batting and found it great to work with, easy to machine quilt. I used 505 spray baste on it and it worked great, no slippage that I noticed. I say go for it!

Me, also. I just used the poly for the first time and found that spray basting did not "stick" as well with the batting. (I found this when I used a poly mix fabric too.) I'll go back to my never-fail QD Orient from now on.

You can get 80/20 hobbs black batting from Linda's Electric Quilters. I needed one but ordered two king size to have one as a back up.
