Antique pressure cooker

I saw this ad on CL this morning.

I had never seen one like this before. Reminded me of one of those old diving bells with the hoses and tethers to the ship.

It looks like the old one we used to use in science class for experiments. Just what you want to use, right? An antique pressure cooker that may explode during use.

I was given my great aunts and it was exactly like that one. Mine was an All American #7 and it was given to my great aunt as a wedding present sometime in the 1930s.When it was full of jars and water it weighed a ton so 3 years ago DH insisted on replacing it with a new one (which I hate).I had only seen one other like it and it was in a small town museum. Pressure cookers don't explode unless they are used incorrectly.

That particular one probably has some age on it, but this model or style is still sold, and for big bucks. I was invited to learn to can tuna, and one friend borrowed two similar ones and brought them. When I went looking for one like that, I decided I no longer do enough canning to justify the price, so kept my 12 Qt. Mirro. Although the interior of the top looks like enamel, I think the exterior that looks white is just the aluminum oxidation.

That is a canner. Mother had one and it disappeared from her. I wish I had it. She had to close it like changing a tire. Tighten one side clamp and then the one directly across from it. Then another and etc. etc.

I have an all american canner like this. I love canning beef stew and green beans in mine. :)

My mother-in-law canned with one like this, which closed as described here.

I couldn't imagine having that huge pot sitting on the stove. My cousin has a stove top pressure cooker almost that size.
When my Mom goes back to Michigan just before my cousin harvests some cabbage from her garden. They make a ton of cabbage rolls, last year they made 75.......lol

I don't use my canner on my kitchen stove. I bought a camping stove to use it on in my garage. http://www.outdoorcooking.com/camp-c...35MaAnHB8P8HAQ

When i retire and move back to the ozarks i hope to have a summer kitchen built outside. So i can do my canning, fish frys and such outside.
