Question about large square quilt rulers

I bought a 15" square quilting ruler last week with a 50% off coupon. The next day I had an opportunity and bought a 20.5" square ruler also at 50% off. Someday I plan to make a quilt with 18" block so am glad to have the larger ruler. Is there a reason I should keep the 15" square since I have the larger 20.5"? I am not a quilt expert, but have made a few quilts and want to make more now that I am retired. Do any of you have and use these sizes or is it overkill to have both?

Thanks

Renea

I would likely keep them both - that 20" square will be a little unwieldy for smaller blocks -

I agree. I also have them both, and also an 8.5. I do use the smaller ones more, but it is so nice when you need the larger one to have it on hand.

I'd keep both too. They are nice for squaring up blocks.

Had to laugh at this post -- NOT the poster, mind, but the topic -- because I have every size square from LITERALLY 2" up to 20+". And 4 of the 8" Bias Square Rulers from That Patchwork Place! (Sort of shows how much I value that ruler above all others, LOL!!)
I rarely use the 15" one, admittedly, and assume I only have it because it was leftover when I closed down my shop all those years ago. I use the 20" for square-up purposes almost exclusively. 8" and 12.5" are my go to squares.

I have every size of different square rulers I can find. I'm on the lookout for a 10" square. I have a 10 1/2" I want the 10". I don't like to make do with a bigger ruler just to save a few dollars to not have the smaller size. 1/2" difference is too much for me when it comes to a ruler.

Two large squares will be an advantage when you square up your quilt before adding binding. I put my 15 inch square in one corner and line up my rulers along the edge to my second 10 inch ruler on the opposite corner. I slide my cutting mat along as I use my rotary cutter to trim the edges and square everything up.

You can never be too thin, too rich, or have too many rulers. :) (Same goes for too much fabric.)

Well said Dunster!!!

Thanks to everyone. I was thinking it might be a mistake to return the 15" square ruler, but I wasn't sure exactly why.

I am keeping it. I am watching videos and reading and educating myself about squaring up blocks and quilts.
