HST help

Does anyone have the chart that tells how big to make the squares to make 4 at a time HST by sewing corner to corner and cutting between the sewn lines? I have the 8 at a time chart but need the 4 at a time.

This should help you for several ideas:

Scroll down on the page and she shows you all sorts of things including your 4 squares.

Thank you. I did check that out, but it creates the bias edges. Do you think the same size block would work with the corner to corner method?

I think you want to use the 8 at a time method, which will produce HST that are not on the bias. You multiply your desired finished size by 2; add 2" (1 3/4" is the exactly correct size, but I always make them bigger and square up), and cut two squares that size. Draw the diagonals corner to corner, sew 1/4" each side of the drawn line, then make the following cuts without moving the fabric. Cut vertically straight down the center. Cut horizontally across the center. Cut along each of the diagonals. After trimming, you have 8 perfect HST's.

Thank you Krisb. I have that chart and use it. I used to have the chart for four but have misplaced it. You sew the same as the 8 at a time but only cut between the sewn lines to make four.

You would need to do a rectangle since you get 2 HST from one square. So just double the length and keep the width the same. I would think it would just be easier to do two square at the same time.

Here's my chart: (I add 1" instead of 7/8" then trim after HST is made)

Would one not simply use the same chart as for the 8, but halved?

I'm happy to have this HST chart to refer to. Thx.

Isn't there a how to on Youtube from Minn Quilts that you sew all around the four edges and then cut evenly? Haven't tried it but it is on my list.
