Cromwell sewing machine
I am looking for a manuel for a cromwell sewing machine. It is a small machine, and has a '"godzilla" finish. I have not been able to locate any info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably it is a badged machine. A picture would help. Does it look like this one? http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...ne-t56651.html or maybe like a machine in this thread? http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...p-t164361.html If so a manual can be found here http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mach...ion-manual.pdf I found another one http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t179842.html I'm not as knowledgeable as some regarding the earlier badged machines. but I'm thinking maybe that one is a National. According to http://needlebar.org/main/makers/usa...nal/index.html that is one of the names that was put on a machine actually made by National. I don't know where to get a manual for this one. if it's National, I posted quite a few manuals on VSS where you can download them for free. You just have to look at the pictures and match up your machine.
The one in the link above that is NOT a 15 clone, I know I have the manual posted for that. I think that is the Expert BT - not sure though. I have a couple like that one. These three are all National made "godzilla" finish machines. With Nationals, the name on the machine isn't usually helpful. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psgutn5ppx.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps0wtzb4bw.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psa1prkjqi.jpg |
I knew I had seen some of those VS machines with the front inspection plate above the bobbin winder. I didn't see any National or Expert BT manuals over there, yet. I see that the following are all similar.

Hi Kathy,
The machine I have is shaped differently from the ones you were kind enough to show. Thank you for the photos, they are interesting. |
Janey, my machine looks like the first photo you posted, I am new to vintage machines. May i ask what vs machines means? My machine needs to have wiring replaced on the motor. Could you direct me to information regarding replacing the wires leading from the motor to the thigh control?

A vs machine has a long bobbin "vibrating shuttle". Most all of the knee lever controllers are just a foot controller placed up inside the cabinet with an extra "arm" on the controller to push with your knee. So the wiring is the same as a normal foot controller. Cari |

If your machine is like the first photo Janey linked to,...
Cari -- The Cromwell portable thread http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t179842.html The Singer 27, 28, 127 & 128 manuals may be of some help. As far as the wiring - I'm not much help as I've never had to do any and would probably have John do it as he is more familiar with motors and wiring. Seems like I have seen some old threads in this forum about rewiring on these vintage machines. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
Sorry, I just realized my husband had not done the second book of manuals - and it's the one with all the National and New Home ones.
So I do have manuals for all four of the National types shown. (Including the Expert BT). I'll see if I can sweet talk DH into getting that one up on the VSS board. |

BTW - the second picture in Janey's post #4 is mine - that is the Expert BT. I have that one in a hand crank verson too http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psypaj5s3i.jpg |
