Need help with JUKI 2010
 

Was so excited to get my Juki 2010, but am having trouble with thread shredding and skipped stitches.
Have tried different needles, tension, thread etc. Can't get things to work for me. Have been FMQ on my cheap Singer for a few years now. Is there anyone out there with a 2010 that can give me some suggestions on what I am doing wrong? I am not running the machine fast although it doesn't seem to matter what speed I use. Have the machine threaded correctly also. Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me. I am 78 miles from my dealer by the way so don't want to make a trip if I can help it.

When I got my Juki tl98Q 8 years ago it would sew a line on perfect stitches for about 8 inches and then make a long stitch. I wasn't machine savvy at that point and couldn't figure out what to do. I called the dealer who sold me the machine (he was 5 states away) and he said he had no idea why it was happening. I first turned the upper tension knob all the way up and then down to the bottom several times. Next I took the manual and rethreaded making sure the thread went between the two discs. I set the other tension all the way at the beginning and kept moving in tighter. I sewed and sewed and sewed! It finally worked it's kinks out. Recently it did the same thing on a quilt and I think I'm going to have to do the same thing again! I still can't figure out why it gets fussy.

The only other thing I can think of is to thoroughly clean the bobbin area (remove the throat plate, too) and the discs. Make sure the foot lever is up when you thread the machine. Even if it is a brand new machine, some lint or thread piece may have gotten caught somewhere along the line.

Sorry you are having trouble. I love my Juki 2010. It is my "go to" machine for piecing and quilting. I really only use my Bernina 630 for embroidery and decorative stitches.

Whenever I have had thread shredding on my TL2010Q, I have loosened top tension A LOT ! Also, I always use topstitch needles.

Thanks for the advice. I have a 90/14 needle in. Will clean and try loosening the top tension.

One more dumb question. Sometimes when I stop my FMQing the thread cutter will cut the thread even though I have not pushed the button. Is there a way to disengage the thread cutter? It is the only feature I don't like.

I did what you suggested with the top tension, made new quilt sandwich and tested. Wow! Did feathers, swirls etc. No thread shredding and no skipped stitches. Yea!! I have a quilt I need to get quilted for the fair and was ready to get the Singer out. Now will use Juki as my reason to get it in the first place was the bigger throat. I would love to be able to disengage the pedal thread cutter. I've accidentally cut my thread way too many times, I'd much rather just use the button to do it.

I have the same problem with the pedal thread cutter. I have gotten used to placing the pedal sideways. I read somewhere that you can disengage that function on the pedal, but I think it involves taking the pedal apart and cutting a wire. I don't think I'll try that....

I didn't know that the pedal could activate the thread cutter.
