Problems spraying starch? Bottle?
What is the finest misting spray bottle you have used? OK if I have to purchase a reasonably price product in it as long as I can refill it with 1:2 starch solution.
Now matter which ones I've tried, the solution always seems to come out in bigger drops! Thanks for any help! |
I us the cheap walmart bottle. I think the cost is .99 I have use the same bottle for over a year and I spray a
fine mist when starching. |
I find if you spend a little more money you can find a sprayer that is right for you. Check out the garden supply stores. They sometimes have a metal sprayer that is finer and works. However, I have found plastic ones that work too. When spraying the fabric with starch you should let it sit for 5 minutes after spraying to let the starch soak in. Then iron. If you iron your fabric before cutting this is a better way to do it. Doesn't matter so much if the starch comes out heavier.

Thank you to you and moonwork420296. I shall certainly try that one!

I've just been using a regular spray bottle and haven't had any problems, but about a month ago, I picked up a "garden" sprayer to see if it would work for a starch sprayer, it works wonderfully, now I don't have to switch hands when I have a lot of yardage to starch. I'm also thinking of picking up another one for my homemade best press.

If your starch mixture is extra thick, you might try adding a few drops of clear dish soap. Dish soap seems to help with the viscosity of mixtures.

Thanks! I can see a trip to Walmart in my future tomorrow! Why spend more if you don't have to! I'm using the popular 1:2 mixture have had no problems with viscosity, but will sure remember that tip.

ok, I'm fussy about my spray bottles. I use them a lot because I make up so many of my own "chemicals". I've tried them all...not bragging, just frustrated and particular. The best spray bottle ever is "t e bottle crew" by www.bottlecrew.com in west bloomfield MI 48322. 32 oz or 960 ml The spray top I like is the one on the floral mister (has finger ridges and a flat spike going out the back of the spray unit).....I plan to try the master blaster type soon, because i have other uses for it, but I cant recommend it yet.
