Bernina ruler foot

I saw that Amy has reposted an Instagram from a Bernina instructor that Bernina has a ruler foot for sewing machines that should be out this year. Amy's site is www.freemotionquiltingadventures.com

I assume it won't work with the older Bernina??

It didn't give any more information on what models it will work on. I hope my Bernina dealer gets some in to try.

I work part time for a Bernina dealer who is away at BU learning about all the new stuff. She told me on the phone yesterday that the ruler foot that was "for the longarms only" will now be available for domestic machines. I assume that they have solved the problem using them of the needle hitting the foot (or they are just going to warn you about lowering the needle while the presser foot is up). But no, I don't expect them to make the ruler foot in old style (1630 and older machines).

What is considered old style? I have a 630E.

What will a ruler foot do? I am not familiar with it.

A ruler foot allows you to use special rulers for FMQ. They make straight lines, curves and all sorts of neat designs.

If you look up "ruler quilting work" you'll see lots of examples.

I found this thread interesting and decided to email Bernina USA about when it would be available. Enclosed is their response. I can't wait!!

Interesting - I bought one from my Bernina dealer 6 months ago.

I am really looking forward to this! I'm sure, though, it's going to have a steep learning curve at first!
