Hanging a Quilt?
 

Hi everyone, would like to get some advice on how to hang a quilt. I am putting a hanging sleeve on the top of my quilt when I put the binding on but I am a little bit stumped on how to actually get a quilt hanging flat and nice on a wall.

I spoke to the owner of a quilt shop a few months ago and she suggested a rod and put it on picture brackets. Advice I followed but the quilt doesn't hang flat against the wall and is easily disturbed when walking past.

What do you all use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have one ready to be hung and one that I want to hang behind my bed when its finished.

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry's method is my go-to method for hanging. She uses a top & bottom rod so the quilts hang flawlessly.

Thanks Jane Quilter and Bree123. Just what I have been searching for. Will go to the hardware store next weekend and try to get some bits.

If you want the quilt to hang flat, sew the sleeve in a D shape. Also - don't sew the sleeve into the binding, sew it about an inch down. Here's a tutorial showing how I do mine:

I put a hanging sleeve on the top and the bottom. Then I use café curtain rods which are lighter, smaller and only stick out from the wall about an inch. I purchase two rods and hang one in the bottom sleeve letting the decorative ends stick out the same as the rod holding the quilt. It pulls it flat and keeps it nice and straight.

I hang my quilts by using a decorative curtain rod and the rings.

If it is a wall hanging, I just use a couple straight pins and push the into the drywall. I have wallpaper, so this causes the least damage. Also, don't have to do spackling and touch ups when I decide to move.

Connecting threads has a product called "hang it dang it" that I've started using. But remember your quilt will only hang as straight as it is sewn.

I, also, use the hang it, dang it products. My favorite way to date.
