I love Hummingbirds! There are a few that visit my flowers almost daily and I really enjoy watching them.

Have a daily visitor here too, and before sipping from feeder will hover in front of window to say "hi"-----also loves my fuschia plant that I hang near the feeder.

DH just refilled our feeder the other day and as hot as it's been, we went to the store to get more. we've been refilling about every 10 days. We see them out our living room window and can see from our kitchen. Makes the meal go down easier with their comedic actions of territorial altercations.

You can make your own hummingbird food: via the hummingbird dot net site.

The ratio is 4 to 1. 4 parts water 1 part cane sugar. Bring water to boil, stir in sugar, bring up to boil again, stir, let cool to room temp. Do NOT add any red coloring. It's not needed & can make them sick. Any extra can be stored in the refrigrator for 2 weeks.

Right now my feeders (4) are full of those black sweat bees. UGHH & I just refilled the feeders too. Oh well I will change them out again. I have several here, probably more, as my feeders go down quickly. 1 teeny tiny adult male, that was also here last year, stands guard over the 2 back yard feeders & chases others away. 2 younger ones play chase a lot & then a 3rd one joins in. They will be migrating soon.

I have a feeder by my living room slider that is the favorite, there are standing fuschia plants and a small birdbath/fountain underneath. In the last couple of weeks one of the little guys like to stop and take a bath, he actually surfs on the bubble of water in the center. Haven't been able to get a picuture of it yet but it is fun to watch. Like Feather3 I make my own food using the 4 to 1 ratio, boiling on stove and cooling and storing in refrigerator. I usually try to change my feeders every week now that we are in hotter weather, don't need any drunk hummers flying around the yard.

Fun that you put up a feeder! I also make my own food, since they seem to like it better.
