Plastic lined adult shirt savers/bibs
 

I have been asked to make some of these but not sure what type of plastic to use....they will be cotton fabric on one side and plastic something on the other. I'm afraid that anything g too light will pull away at the stitch and then there is a laundering problem...I think they use really hot water at the care centers. Has anyone had a success with a project like this?

Hummm, have not done this but my first thought was a vinyl table cloth, flannel backed ????

What about that stuff they make diapers out of?

How about the PUL? I think that is what they call the fabric used for such things as diaper covers. O am not sure how it washes up by someone will chime in with advise on this.

My bet is you could not depend on the laundry staff to dry the bibs on low (or hang dry).

what about putting whatever in between two layers of your face fabric

Are you sure that you need plastic on the back? I'm thinking that something that is thick enough (e.g. quilted with a good batting, or heavy toweling) will not let anything through. Plastic is less comfortable to wear, and harder to launder.

I would look into outdoor fabric or skip the plastic and line with warm & natural and quilt. You are right about the heat from commercial laundries used by care centers.

Made them out of terry cloth for the front and the good vinyl table cloth with cloth lining for the back.

I have seen where some ask that they not look like bibs but rather a fun shirt.

You can take a real shirt, sew the front button area closed. Then cut off the shirt from the shoulders down around the sleeves. The collar is split in the back and that is where the fastener goes. Line them from the neck down with terry cloth, etc.

Just something to try and maintain some dignity . You can google the images and get some other ideas and directions.
