Featherweight Case
 

Good morning, wise QB members -

I have a FW case in need of some refurbishing and repair. I've replaced the handle and now the case itself needs some work. I've looked online for videos, etc., and have found nothing specifically addressing repairing the case. I would appreciate any advice this group could offer. Thank you - -

I would hit it with a dab of black paint and call it good.

I think it was on this site someone decoupaged the case. It looked great. After looking at my case I am beginning to think I need to do it too.

Is it structurally sound??. If so, just use a little paint. Here is the post referred to above:

You might want to try the advance search. Quite a few posts regarding featherweight cases.

I used black shoe polish on mine. It was "Kiwi Leather Premier Shine Ultra Brillant" and covers up scrapes and scuffs.

If you really want to strip and recover it, that black fabric/vinyl is called tolex and you can find it online as it is used for musical instrument cases.

I peeled all of the black fabric off of a case and then sanded and glued the joints. Picked out a upholstery fabric, measured the case on all of the sides, top and bottom, cut the fabric with 1/2" seams, got some fabric/upholstery glue and started glueing the fabric on, turn under the 1/2" seam area on top of fabric that is already glued, I used clamps and large rubber bands to hold as it was drying. It turned out very nice.

Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville blog had a few photos of decoupaged cases folks brought to her classes. She had a short video of someone demonstrating the process. I have a shabby case and am debating whether to use some thin embossed leather, vinyl or fabric. Would love to see yours when finished.

Auto parts store have leather/plastic seat repair kits, which come in different colors and with pieces of plastic with which not only to mix the colors but to also do a grain design.

Your case doesn't look in bad shape. I too would just touch it up with one of the above suggestions.
