The hand stitch look with the Janome 8900
 

Hi there, I am looking at the Janome 8200 vs the 8900 and can't decide which one to buy. The only thing that really stands out that I want is the hand stitch look stitch on the 8900. Has anyone worked with this stitch? I have watched a YouTube video of this stitch and it appears to be a bit of a challenge getting the correct tension to make it work. Has anyone used this stitch? Trying to decide if the additional cost is worth that ne stitch when the 8200 seems adequate for me....any input on either machine is appreciated!

yes, I got this for my daughter because she does not like handwork, but loves the imitation. Yes you have to fus with the tension. But it is one more tool in the tool box of dsm quilts

Get the 8900. I researched both....the 8900 should be a good price now that the 9400 is out.

I am probably going for the 8900.... I want sure if I could justify and extra$500 for one stitch , but some of the other features may be useful in the long run. The 8200 is on sale at the moment, but perhaps if I wait a few months, the 8909 will go on sale with the new model out. Best price so far is $2199.

I was shown this technique in the 90s but I didn't care for the look of the stitch on my older Bernina (which was NEW in the 90s) :)

What does the stitch look like on the back?

I tried this stitch on a twin quilt. On my janome mc 10001. With a walking foot on. If I'm remembering correctly it went back and forward. And with the weight of the quilt, even doing straight stitches across put a lot of pull. Maybe it was the walking foot with the stitch. I wasn't giving up the walking foot. I ripped a lot of stiches out! I just prefer regular stitches. Or heavy thread. Maybe be ok on something smaller. Take a quilt to the dealer and try it.

Are you meaning a stitch, that looks like hand-embroidery stem stitch?
Or a stitch, that looks like hand-quilting?

Either ways ... be sure to look at the back, and see if you like the look!

I know I was shown how to do the faux-hand-quilting stitch on the 6600 .... looked great on the top, but from the back, it was less than desirable to me. I am sure it is one that could be emulated on most any machine, once you knew how.
