Buttons on a quilt?
 

I'm working on a Row by Row quilt. Two of the rows have buttons as embellishment. The buttons are cute, but I am concerned about the comfort and longevity of them.

Any thoughts about buttons on a bed quilt?

Why not? I doubt that they would cause any more problems than other kinds of embellishments. You can always turn the quilt back rather than using it as a 'blanket'. Some quilts are intended to be 'blankets'. Others are more of a design feature in the room.

I made one that I put buttons all over it.

I've used buttons and have been happy with the results. Just watch that you don't add too much weight to the quilt. I usually sew them on with the sewing machine. Could also use a few big ones and sew them on with floss which is tied with tails left on. I do have a bunch of buttons collected over the years. Yet another collection!!!

I did a quilt that had pieced fish in the border. I used buttons for all the eyes. My brother has the quilt and it is on a guest bed that doesn't get much use. I think you will be fine using button embellishments on a quilt. If they end up being a problem they can easily be removed.

Several years ago I made a Shop Hop quilt with buttons for apples. It gets washed a couple times a month and I've had no problems.

For those of you who remember Tom Russell, he was a genius when it came to using buttons. The Quilt Show had an episode where he showed a lot of his button work. Believe me when I say that Tom showed so many different ways to sew on a button.,..it was unbelievable! If you have access to The Quilt Show videos I would suggest you watch Episode #1101 in 2012.

Maybe use tiny yo-yos instead of hard buttons??

I think it would depend on what type buttons you are using. Are they plain, round buttons, or decorative buttons? Sharp points and odd shapes could catch on the fabric or quilting stitches when folded back, and cause damage.
