What is the best hand needle to tie a quilt?

I'm having issues trying to find a good thing needle with a big eye to tie my quilts with. I have tried upholstery needles and there a little difficult to quilt with. Let me know if you can help.

You might want to try a chenille needle. They're short, but sharp and they have a big eye.

It also depends on the thread that you use. Some people use yarn so they need a very big eye.

I usually use crocheting thread so don't need super big eye. Some needles have big eyes but are not too sharp to penetrate all the layers of fabric, and once I find one that I like I guard it with my life. I keep in a wooden needle holder.

This is not answering your question but I would buy a pack of different size needles to try.

I've used a chenille needle to tie, and once used a doll needle, when I was using a tying method that required a very long needle.

Thank you so much for input, I think I will buy some chenille needles and see if that works a little better. I'm using a DMC Crochet kind of thread. I think I'll just have to try different needles to see one that I like the best.

I have not tied a quilt. The LQS by me that has a summer program for kids recommends upholstery needles - generally the curved ones for the kids to tie their quilts. Just a thought.

I use a chenille needle and pearl cotton to tie jean quilts

I have used different needles but the one I like best is the curved upholstery needle. I tie all my quilts anchored to a quilting table and they work great. I do use the crochet thread like you posted

When I tie, I use a fairly small curved needle and floss, have never had a problem getting the needle threaded.

Curved needle is really great with 6 strands of embroidery thread. I just did a demo at my quilt guild. They were really surprised how fast and easy.
